restaurant 1 serving

Ingredients

3 ounces Bourbon (Gin, Vodka, or Rum work nicely)
3 ounces Lemon Juice (fresh squeezed)
3 Ounces Cranberry Simple Syrup
3 dashes bitters (I used Cranberry Bitters)
1 egg white
Fresh Herbs and Cranberries for garnish

Directions

  • Prepare cranberry simple syrup. Add 2 cups fresh, whole cranberries to a heavy sauce pan. Combine with 2 cups sugar and 2 cups water. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to a heavy simmer. You will hear the cranberries begin to pop. Mash the berries and stir well to incorporate all of the sugar. Allow to simmer an additional 2-3 minutes. Strain the mixture to remove the berry pulp. Refrigerate.
  • Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker. Shake well (no ice). The mixture should be very frothy. Add crushed ice and shake again. I like to serve the drink in a rocks glass with a large ice cube. Strain the cocktail into the serving glass. Garnish with a sprig of fresh sage, rosemary or thyme. Add a few fresh cranberries for garnish. If you want to impress your guests, use sugared cranberries on a skewer.

Notes

Use pasteurized eggs for this recipe. The addition of alcohol and an acid (lemon juice) in correct proportions will also help reduce the spread of any food-borne disease.
